Swiss digital can printers create exclusive canned water to support UK charity

Innovative digital can printers, NOMOQ, made a splash at BRWLDN Beer Festival this year when it showcases a one-off can creation for Trust Water.

Trust Water is a UK brand where 100% of net profits are donated to The Drinks Trust – a charity dedicated to the drinks and hospitality workforce. Opting for a fully recyclable product, it’s the first-ever canned water for the brand.

The limited edition product is the result of an exciting partnership between NOMOQ, The Drinks Trust, Trust Water, Purely Scottish and Phil Macan. The five brands are coming together for the leading drinks industry event to keep exhibitors and beverage lovers hydrated throughout. Importantly, it’s also raising funds for a cause close to everyone in the industry’s hearts.

The Switzerland-based start-up, founded in 2021, creates digitally printed, fully recyclable cans which are works of art. It has short lead times and “NO Minimum Order Quantity” – hence the name. Its extreme versatility and customer-centric proposition allows beverage companies of every size to flex their creativity and produce stunning packs with almost limitless colour options and photorealistic graphics.

This is the first-time NOMOQ has exhibited in London and comes on the back of the recent announcement that Ardagh Metal Packaging is investing €25 million in the business. The sustainable digital can printing business is getting ready to make its mark across the UK.

Patrick Schweizer, Co-Founder at NOMOQ, said: “We had an incredible time in London meeting other beverage lovers and experts, and showcasing our exclusive can of water design at BRWLDN. Teaming up with The Drinks Trust, Trust Water, Purely Scottish and Phil Macan to produce a new canned water design for the festival and raise funds for an important cause has been a brilliant experience.

“We loved meeting so many different companies at the In-Drinks event earlier this year and getting to know the UK market better. Our no minimum order quantity on production proved very popular amongst businesses in the UK. We are able to turn around new drink ideas quickly and it gives a perfect solution to launching innovations with consumers with the option to produce as little as one can if needed.”

The Drinks Trust is excited for the partnership with NOMOQ. The charity strives to empower people in the drinks and hospitality industry through services designed to assist financially, restore well-being and develop skills.

Trust Water was launched by hospitality experts Mark Bickerton and Richard Bailey specifically to help support those working in the drinks industry, with 100% of net profits from every bottle sold being donated to The Drinks Trust.

Mark Bickerton, Trust Water co-founder, commented: “Trust Water was created to help those working in the drinks industry and every profit we make goes straight to the charity The Drinks Trust. We’re so excited to see a great company such as NOMOQ taking the time to help the industry and doing so in such a creative and unique way. The new design of the canned water will help greatly in our efforts to support The Drinks Trust and we were so excited to see the canned water at the BRWLDN event. It is a wonderful way for us to raise funds and bring awareness to the charity.”

Purely Scottish, the Lothian-based water company describes the drink as refreshingly naturally filtered crystal clear Scottish drinking water, reimagined in a can. Sourced in the Lammermuir Hills in the Scottish Borders, the partnership is the ultimate refresher served in sustainable packaging.

Andrew Crichton, Production Manager at Purely Scottish, adds: “We have always wanted to explore different packaging options as we move to more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives. But we also know this means changing consumer habits and the perception of traditional water bottles.

“This partnership with NOMOQ also allows us to ‘test the water’ quite literally, seeing if local drinkers want a canned water option and if they do, we will make this an option.”

Phil Macan is Scotland’s first canning and bottling service dedicated to independent brewers and craft beverage producers. Allan and his team filled the cans and managed all the logistics.

Allan Rimmer, Phil Macan said: “Our service is designed to meet the demands of small batch brewers, offering competitive packaging solutions and it was great to work with NOMOQ and Purely Scottish on this collaboration. This was the perfect partnership and a brilliant example of the drink’s community coming together to make great drinks happen.”
